GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Concord University women's basketball team lost to 11th-ranked Glenville State 108-89 Saturday afternoon at the Lilly Gymnasium in Mountain East Conference play.

It was the most points Concord (8-8, 6-6 MEC) has scored this season and its highest output since recording 89 points against West Virginia State Feb. 18, 2013.

CU had three players finish in double-figures with junior forward Andrea Bertrand leading the way with a game-high 30 points as well as a career-high 14 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.

Bertrand, who finished just two points shy of matching her career-high, went 13-for-20 (65 percent) from the field Saturday. Over Concord's last five games, she is shooting 60.7 percent (34-of-56).

Junior guard Sissy Wagner connected on a career-high six three-pointers on her way to a 20-point, four-rebound game. Wagner was an efficient 6-for-10 from three-point range.

Junior forward Jacqueline Kestner collected her second double-double of the year off of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Kestner, who came away with a season-best six offensive boards, also tied Bertrand for a team-high four assists.

Concord jumped out to an early 10-point lead at 27-17 on the nationally-ranked Pioneers (16-2, 11-1 MEC) through the opening nine minutes of play thanks in no small part to Bertrand, who was a force in the paint early on with 11 points on 5-for-5 shooting during the spurt.

Over the next five minutes, GSC went on a 15-5 run of its own to even the score at 32-32 with 5:58 remaining in the period. The Pioneers continued their run in the final minutes of the half to take an 11-point lead into halftime.

Out of the locker room, Glenville State pushed its lead to 20, 62-42, with 18:10 remaining in the game. Undaunted, the Mountain Lions steadily chipped away at the deficit with a 28-17 spurt over the next ten minutes to cut the GSC edge to just nine points at 79-70 with 8:29 left in regulation.

However, the Pioneers ended any thoughts of a CU comeback by extending its lead to as many as 20 points in the final stages of the game en route to the 19-point victory.

Other top contributors for Concord included senior center Sammi Webster added six points and six rebounds while junior guards Rachel Artrip and Ashley Brown added nine and four points, respectively. Artrip also grabbed four rebounds and passed out three assists.

CU held advantages over Glenville State in defensive rebounds (31-27), three-point percentage (47.4-36.1) and field goal percentage (46.7-45.2).

Glenville State was led by Kenyona Simmons, who finished with 19 points and four rebounds.

The Mountain Lions return to the Carter Center 5:30 p.m. Thursday to face MEC rival West Virginia Wesleyan. Concord defeated the Bobcats 70-62 in Buckhannon earlier in the year.
