GLENVILLE, W. Va. – The Concord University men's basketball team lost on the road at Glenville State, 103-92, in Mountain East Conference play Saturday afternoon at the Lilly Gymnasium.

Sophomore guard Cam Shannon paced the Mountain Lions with career-highs of 25 points and four steals. Shannon had an outstanding shooting performance, going 8-for-15 from the field overall, 2-for-4 from three-point range and 7-for-8 from the foul line.

The Beckley, W. Va. native is in the midst of a four-game stretch where he has scored 18.7 points per game (ppg) and has made 29 of his last 34 free throw attempts (85.3 percent).

The trio of junior guard Paul Byrd, junior guard Mike Boyd and freshman forward Jalen Camper all joined Shannon in double figures as well.

Boyd went 6-for-10 from the field on his way to 13 points in addition to five rebounds while Boyd added 12 points, three assists and two steals. Camper scored 11 points and pulled down five rebounds in 23 minutes of playing time, his most since playing 31 minutes in CU's season-opener.

Concord (5-13, 2-10 MEC) had its second-best performance of the season from the field, shooting 55.2 percent (32-for-58) while also going 7-for-13 (53.8 percent) from three-point range and 21-for-29 (72.4 percent) from the foul line.

However, Glenville State (10-6, 7-5 MEC) outshot Concord by hitting 33-of-58 (56.9 percent) of its attempts from the field, making 10 three-pointers and converting 27 free throws, six more shots than Concord attempted. CU was whistled for a season-high 28 fouls Saturday.

Glenville State made five three-pointers in the opening 10 minutes of the game to open up a 30-18 lead over the Mountain Lions halfway through the period. Concord withstood the early barrage of three's by the Pioneers to cut its deficit to just four points at 39-35 with 2:48 remaining in the period off of a 17-9 run that was sparked by 12 points from Shannon.

Glenville State stymied CU's comeback bid by scoring 10 of the half's final 12 points to head into the break leading Concord 49-37.

GSC controlled the opening portion of the second half and pushed its lead to 28 points (83-55) with 8:44 to play. To their credit, the Mountain Lions didn't quit and finished the game by outscoring the Pioneers 37-20 over the final half of the period en route to the 103-92 GSC win.

Boyd and Camper each scored 10 points in the second half.

Concord's 92 points were the second-most by the Mountain Lions this season. Three of Concord's four highest scoring games have come in its last four contests. CU is averaging 84.8 ppg over that stretch, nearly seven points higher than its season average of 77.2 ppg.

Sophomore forward Terry Hopewell chipped in nine points with the freshmen guard duo of Aaron Miller and B.J. Hamlet adding six points apiece.

Jordan McCloud scored 27 points on 10-of-12 shooting to pace the Pioneers.

The Mountain Lions return home 7:30 p.m. Thursday to take on West Virginia Wesleyan in MEC action.
