Ryan Forde scored Concord's first two goals to lead the Concord University men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Ferrum College Saturday afternoon at Anderson Field.
The win was the Mountain Lions' first season-opening triumph since 2009.
Sophomore
Patrick Ebbs also found the net to seal the victory for the Mountain Lions in their season opener.
Forde beat goalie Justin Robinson for the first time in the 38th minute of the first half to send Concord into the break leading 1-0. Less than two minutes into the second half at 46:54 Forde once again snuck a shot past Robinson to put CU up 2-0. Sophomore
Alex Williams assisted on Forde's second score of the afternoon.
Ebbs iced the game with his first goal of the year off of a pass from senior
Tyler Farrar at the 68:09 mark in the second period.
While Forde and Ebbs provided the offense, goalkeeper
Mitchell Thompson led a fine Concord defensive effort. For the game, Thompson stopped six shots to pick up the shutout.
Forde finished the contest with five shots. Ebbs, freshman
Corey Gaylor, sophomore
Kris Robins and senior
Sebastian Escobar all recorded a shot apiece for Concord.
Ferrum, (2-1-0), held edges over Concord in both shots (10-9) and corners (6-2), but were unable to beat Concord's back line.
The Mountain Lions will have a quick turnaround as they return to Anderson Field Monday afternoon to face the University of Findlay. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
