Complete Game Notes - Concord StatsLive StatsLive Video (Sunday games only)

ATHENS, W. Va. - After playing its first six games of the season on the road, the Concord University baseball team is set to begin a season-long 10-game homestand starting with a pair of doubleheaders against Indiana (Pa.) Saturday and Sunday.

First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Concord and IUP will play a seven inning game followed by a nine inning contest on both days.

Records
• Concord won two out of three games last weekend at the CIAA-WVIAC Challenge, improving its record to 2-4 overall on the season. CU knocked off Chowan and St. Augustine's before losing to Winston-Salem State.

• Indiana (Pa.) has yet to play a game this season. Last year, IUP finished 25-23-1 overall and 11-13 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

All-Time Series
• The four-game series will mark the first meetings between Concord and IUP.

Last Time Out
Josh Wenger drove in three runs and Kevin Mack gave up just one run in 5.1 innings of relief work, but Winston-Salem defeated CU 9-6 behind a seven-run first inning.

Mountain Lion Notes
• Wenger's three-RBI day against Winston-Salem State was just one of a trio of strong performances for the senior short stop last weekend. In three games, Wenger hit .692 (9-for-13) with three runs scored, 12 RBI, two home runs and a .733 on-base percentage.

• For his efforts, Wenger was named the WVIAC Player of the Week, NCBWA Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week and the NCBWA National Hitter of the Week.

• Senior pitcher Drew Spear rebounded from a rocky first start to give up just three runs, all unearned, and strike out eight batters over seven innings in CU's 10-3 win against St. Augustine's.

• Spear did not allow a run in his final five innings and his eight strikeouts are a team season-high.

• Junior pitcher Tim Leather has been Concord's go-to reliever so far this season. In four games, Leather is 1-1 with a 2.16 ERA and four strikeouts in 8.1 innings of work. Opponents are batting just .207 against Leather this year.

• In addition to racking up three hits and four runs scored, freshman outfielder Andrew Seigel flashed some of his speed last weekend with two stolen bases.

• Junior outfielder Bret Blevins has already had five multi-hit games this season. His .500 batting average is tied with Wenger for the team lead.

• Junior pitcher Ryan Weatherholtz (1-0) earned his first win of the year with a seven-strikeout performance vs. Chowan that saw Concord's No. 1 starter scatter eight hits and give up just three runs in seven innings in the 13-4 victory.

• Weatherholtz is averaging five strikeouts per start.

• Sophomore second baseman Jerrod Groves has registered two-hit games in four of Concord's six contests with the highlight being a pair of doubles against Chowan.

• Groves, senior outfielder Jacob Mays and junior first baseman Joey Miller have all reached base safely in all of the Mountain Lions' games this year.

• Mays, Concord's leadoff hitter, has done a terrific job of getting on base for CU. The Charles Town, W. Va. native ranks third on the team with a .433 on-base percentage thanks in part to four walks and being hit by pitches five times. Only Miller has more walks than Mays with five.

• Since the 2008 season, Concord is 5-7 against schools from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

• Indiana Pa. is led by College Baseball Newsletter Preseason All-Americans, Rick Jones, Stephen Cooke, Ryan Uhl and Robbie Zinsmeister.
