What a difference a day makes.

Only 14 hours after mustering only one run on six hits in a loss to Alderson-Broaddus in the opening day of the WVIAC Baseball Tournament, Concord returned to form and put itself back in the championship discussion.

Friday afternoon, the Mountain Lions busted out for 16 hits in a 12-8 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan that kept alive CU's hopes for a return to the league title game on Sunday afternoon.

Concord spotted Wesleyan a 3-0 lead before roaring back for its 10th win in the last 12 games.

The comeback began with a two-out rally in the bottom of the 2nd inning, when Zach Cloxton's RBI double and Ian Humphrey's run-scoring single drew Concord within 3-2.

The Mountain Lions moved ahead with a three-run outburst in the 3rd.  Keith Morrisroe led off with a single, Bret Blevins drove him home with a triple, and Ryan Johnston plated Blevins with a triple of his own.  Josh Wenger's sacrifice fly gave CU a 5-3 lead.

The Bobcats pulled within 5-4 in the top of the 4th, but Concord replied with three more runs in the bottom of the inning, on an RBI single from Blevins and a two-out, two-run single from Wenger.

WVWC got home runs from third baseman Gene Franks and Cory Flickinger to close within 8-7 in the top of the 5th, but Concord again had an answer in the bottom half.  A throwing error on Franks brought in one run and groundout from Morrisroe scored another, giving CU a 10-7 lead.

An error by SS Tom Brunswick opened the door for another Concord rally in the 6th.  Cloxton delivered another two-out RBI single, followed by Humphrey's run-scoring double into the left field corner, and the Mountain Lions led 12-7.

Wesleyan would push across a single run in the 9th but could get no closer.

Randy Beard went 3-5 with two stolen bases and a run scored to pace Concord's offense.  Humphrey was 2-3, Blevins finished 2-5 with two RBIs and a stolen base, Cloxton went 2-4 with two RBIs and Devin Smith was 2-5.

Smith also got the pitching victory, bending but not breaking in a six-inning, 10-hit, 85-pitch outing that raised his record to 6-3.
