WOMEN'S GOLF: ERICE EARNS NCAA BID

CU SOPHOMORE SELECTED FOR EAST REGION TOURNAMENT

When you have a good thing going, you don't want to see it end.

The Concord women's golf team saw its 2012 spring schedule come to a conclusion at last week's Gannon Spring Mixer.  But Marina Erice's season will go on.

Erice has earned a spot as an Individual player in the NCAA Division II East Region tournament, to be held from Sunday, May 6 through Tuesday, May 8 at the Findlay Country Club in Findlay, OH.  The NCAA unveiled the regional bids on Monday afternoon.

Erice has already put together one of the most distinguished careers in WVIAC history.  She's won Medalist honors in all four of the conference tournaments in which she's played, including a stunning nine-shot victory at the Southern Regional, which wrapped up on April 16.

After that, the WVIAC named Erice its Player of the Year.

Erice will represent not only Concord at the regional tournament, but the entire WVIAC.  No other teams or individuals from the conference have qualified for post-season play.

The top three teams and top three individuals not with a team from the regional will advance to the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships, to be held May 16-19 at Persimmon Ridge Golf Course in Louisville, KY.

Erice's WVIAC Medalist streak began at the 2011 Southern Regional.  She won the Northern Regional last October 3, and the WVIAC Championships on October 22.

At the most recent Southern Regional, Erice carded the best round in each of the event's two rounds, and was one of only two players to shoot under 80 in the tournament's second day.

This is just the fourth season for Concord's women's golf program, and Erice is the second CU player to earn an NCAA bid.  The first was Vivian Garciaferro in 2010.
