SOFTBALL: TORNADO WARNING

CU DROPS PAIR AT KING COLLEGE

It was a beautiful day, but the Concord softball team ran into rough weather on Thursday, dropping a non-conference doubleheader to the Lady Tornados of King College, 9-1 and 10-0, in Bristol, TN.

GAME ONE
BOXSCORE / PLAY-BY-PLAY

The home side moved ahead quickly, scoring three runs in the bottom of the 1st inning.

Concord got on the board in the top of the 2nd.  Jessica Seymour led off with an infield single, moved to second on Tamara Smith's sacrifice, and tried to reach third.  The throw across the infield by Tornados first baseman Kendall Brabson went wide and Seymour came in to score.

Out At 2nd
King would come back with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-1 lead.  They added two more in the 5th to make the score 9-1 and end the game on the eight-run rule.

Lacey McDougall singled in the 1st, 3rd and 5th innings for three of CU's five hits.

GAME TWO
BOXSCORE / PLAY-BY-PLAY

The second game mirrored the first, with King taking the first lead with a four-run rally in the bottom of the 1st, highlighted by Brabson's three-run home run.  The Tornado added two more runs in the 2nd and took a 10-0 lead after a four-run 3rd.

Concord got lead-off extra-base hits in the 4th and 5th – a triple by McDougall and a double from Brantlea Wood – but couldn't bring a run across, and the game ended on the run rule.

Thursday was Concord's (12-16) final non-league matchup the season.  The Mountain Lions get back to the WVIAC schedule when they visit Alderson-Broaddus for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 31.  First pitch is set for 2:00 pm in Philippi, WV.
