Box Score
ATHENS, W. Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team erased a two-goal deficit to defeat Ferrum in overtime, 3-2, Thursday afternoon at Anderson Field.

Ferrum scored both of its goals in the opening 12 minutes of play before freshman Kari Simon scored twice for Concord to force overtime, where fellow freshman Chloe Barber delivered the game-winner for CU.

For the game, Concord held 17-9 and 8-2 advantages in shots and corners, respectively. The Maroon and Gray improved its record to 3-6-1 on the season with the win, its second in as many games. Ferrum fell to 5-7-0 with the loss.

The Mountain Lions controlled possession for the majority of the contest, but early on Ferrum made the most of its few opportunities, converting their first two shots of the game into goals.

Concord's resiliency would pay off.  Midway through the first half Concord drew four consecutive corners in under two minutes with the fourth opportunity turning into a goal when Sami Spertzel's approach from the right corner found Simon who was able to score in pack of players to cut the Ferrum lead to just 2-1 at the 22:38 mark in the first half.

CU continued to pepper the Ferrum goal with shots for the remainder of the match, but failed to score until Simon put away her team-leading fifth goal of the season with just 51 seconds remaining in the second half to force overtime.

After a scoreless opening overtime period, Barber beat Ferrum goalie Caitlyn Deaton just 1:34 into the second overtime off of an assist from Alyanna James to give CU the 3-2 comeback-victory. The assist was James' second on the season.

Goalie Kaitlyn Wasylko was perfect after giving up the two early goals. She finished with five saves.

Six players recorded at least two shots for Concord with Simon leading the way at five attempts. Barber and Erika Hoff both tied for second in the match with three shots apiece.

Concord returns to WVIAC action when it hosts Davis & Elkins Oct. 7 at 1:00 p.m. Five of CU's six remaining matches will be played at home. Concord currently ranks ninth in the WVIAC with a conference record of 1-4-1.
