The Concord Men's Golf team went into this fall as the pre-season favorite to win the WVIAC.

The Mountain Lions didn't meet that lofty prediction in their first conference meet of the season, but they weren't all that far off, either.

CU finished second in the two-day WVIAC Central Regional, which concluded Tuesday in Davis, WV.

The Mountain Lions finished at one-under-par 575, behind only the University of Charleston. CU and UC were the only two teams to finish under par on the par-72, 6984-yard Canaan Valley Golf Club course.

Evan Muscari (above left) staged a second-round charge to finish tied for third in the individual standings. The sophomore from Pineville, WV carded a 68 on Tuesday – the lowest round of the day – to end at four-under 140.

Sebastian Starud came in tied for ninth at even-par 144. Only nine players in the entire field shot even par or better.

Matt Morgan gave CU a third golfer in the top ten, going 72-73 to tie for 10th at one-over 145.

One shot back was Johan Isberg, who tied for 14th place at two-over 146.

Jamie Arthur was another shot back, finishing at three-over 147 to tie for 19th place.

Up next for the Mountain Lions is another conference tournament – the WVIAC Northern Regional – on October 9-10 at the Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, WV.

After that, Concord will host the WVIAC Championships at Glade Springs Resort in Daniels, WV, on October 16-18.
