College football teams can testify to the power of Homecoming. For proof, Concord fans need look no further than last October, when a near-capacity crowd witnessed CU dismantle Glenville State 49-14.

Ohio Valley University has no football team, so they celebrate their homecoming during basketball season. Which turned out to be bad news for Concord's Men's team Saturday afternoon.

Backed by a raucous homecoming crowd at the claustrophobic Snyder Activities Center, the Fighting Scots used an early run to take the lead and broke away to defeat the Mountain Lions 104-85 in a WVIAC contest in Vienna, WV.

CU scored the game's first six points, on consecutive three-point shots by Aaron Fluellen and Javaughn Acree-Manuel, and was up 12-10 when Ohio Valley went on a 16-4 run to go ahead 26-16 with 9:55 left in the 1st half. The Fighting Scots stretched their advantage to 21 points before taking a 53-35 lead into halftime.

OVU took its biggest lead at 86-64 with 6:45 left in regulation. But Concord clawed back into the game, thanks to Corey Neeley. The junior point guard (left) carried Concord in the 2nd half, shooting 6-11 from the field, including 4-8 from three-point range, and scoring all 24 of his points.

A Neeley jumper pulled CU within 88-81 with 2:47 left. But OVU thwarted Concord's comeback bid with back-to-back three-pointers from Micah Mills and Kendall Allison and would pull away from there.

Ohio Valley shot a red-hot .621 from the field (36-58), including .643 (9-14) from three-point range. The Fighting Scots outrebounded CU 44-30, and while they committed 24 turnovers, they also recorded 30 assists.

Rick Alderman backed up Neeley's big day with 21 points and nine rebounds, shooting 8-13 from the floor. Cory Willard drained all four of his three-point shots in finishing with 12 points.

Ohio Valley got double-doubles from Donavin Vinson (29 points, 10 assists) and Rodney Everage (26 points, 15 rebounds). Everage also blocked six shots. Allison added 14 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
