MEN'S BASKETBALL: MEDIA REQUEST

POST-TIMEOUT SURGE PROPELS CU TO WIN AT GLENVILLE STATE

Say what you will about the media.  But it played a small part in the Concord men's basketball team's 90-66 victory at Glenville State Tuesday night.

The Mountain Lions opened a 17-7 lead just 3:16 after tipoff, but then went cold.  CU missed nine of its next 12 shots and committed seven turnovers to fall into a 28-28 tie with 6:40 left in the 1st half.

Then came a mandatory media timeout, and the Mountain Lions took advantage.

Concord closed out the half by converting seven of its last 12 shots, breaking out on a 22-4 run to lead 50-32 at the break.

CU pushed its lead to 56-32 just 1:27 into the 2nd half.  But Glenville State managed to close within 13 points– at 70-57, with 8:29 left.  The Mountain Lions responded with eight unanswered points in 1:52 to lead by 21 (78-57), and the outcome was decided.

An inside-outside combination helped pace CU.  6'7” forward Romel Kemp posted game highs in points (24) and rebounds (8), while shooting guard Cory Willard sank 6-8 three-point shots in finishing with 21 points.  Six other Mountain Lions scored six points or more.

Concord limited Glenville State to .329 from the field (24-73) and outrebounded the Pioneers 59-43.

Jamel Morris led the hosts with 19 points.

Up next for the Mountain Lions (2-2, 2-1) is a non-conference game at Virginia State on Tuesday, November 29.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm in Petersburg, VA.
