WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: THREE AND OUT

3-GAME WIN STREAK ENDS WITH UPSET LOSS AT D&E

Thud.

The Concord Women's Basketball team's three-game winning streak ended with a clunker.

D&E Bustout 273 x 235
The Lady Lions turned in perhaps their most lackluster performance of the season in a 60-46 upset loss at Davis & Elkins Wednesday night.

D&E was 3-13, 1-9 in the WVIAC, going into the game. But the Lady Senators used a 10-0 run to go ahead 19-10 just nine minutes into the contest, and would lead the rest of the way.

Concord trailed 28-26 at halftime and 31-30 early in the 2nd half. But D&E put together another run – this time, 25-2 – to open an insurmountable 56-32 lead with just over 7:00 remaining.

The Lady Lions (8-6, 5-5) were without starting point guard Sarah Blevins, who missed the game due to academic obligations. Her absence showed. Concord committed 23 turnovers – seven more than their season average – and mustered only eight assists.
By contrast, D&E finished with 18 assists and 13 turnovers. The Lady Senators had averaged 13 assists and 18 turnovers per game.

Point guard Page Turner paced D&E with 18 points, adding a game-high seven assists with only one turnover. Julianne Buckley anchored the middle with 20 points on 9-14 shooting.

Camisha Alexander at D&E 314 x 235
Camisha Alexander (left) led CU with 12 points. She scored the Lady Lions' first 10 points in the game's first 6:45, but scored only two more the rest of the night.
Sidney Lindsey added 11 points.  Jolysa Brown secured a game-high 13 rebounds.

Concord shot just .333 (19-57) from the field, including .063 (1-16) from three-point range, and was outrebounded 43-40.
