GOLDEN GOAL REDUX

HESSIAN'S OT PK PROPELS LADY LIONS PAST PITT-JOHNSTOWN

Say this for the Concord Women's Soccer team – when they work late, they work well.

Saturday, the Lady Lions captured their second overtime victory in three matches, a 1-0 triumph at Pitt-Johnstown Saturday afternoon, September 18.

Alyssa Hesian's golden goal penalty kick in the 99th minute – her first goal of the season – lifted CU to 2-4, 2-2 WVIAC.

The Lady Lions won against Seton Hill exactly one week ago on Kate Armentrout's golden goal in the second overtime.

The match featured 43 combined shots – 23 for Concord, 20 for the Lady Mountain Cats.
Armentrout topped Concord with seven shots; Hessian and Kelsey Ballard each tried five. Samantha Collins led UPJ with six.
CU put ten shots on goal, while UPJ finished with nine.

"For the majority of the game, I felt like we kept control with possession," CU head coach Stefani Workman said.  "Our forwards pressed the play and we got a lot of action up top."

Workman made a lineup change, and it paid dividends.
"We switched Nicole Dirnagl (from defense) to the midfield, and she gave us a lot of firepower and opportunities to score," said Workman.  "Kelsey Ballard got a lot of shots -- she was knocking on the door a lot, but just couldn't find the back of the net.
"Katrina Nagy played a great game in the back.  She anchored things back there and cleaned up everything."

Both goalkeepers – Concord's Kacey Hildebrand and Pitt-Johnstown's Victoria Der Wanik – recorded nine saves.

Concord owned a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks. UPJ committed 14 fouls to Concord's six.
