In the wake of a stunning turnaround 2009 season, the Concord Football team is predicted to finish 5th in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 2010.

A pre-season poll of the conference's coaches placed the Mountain Lions just outside the top division in the upcoming campaign.

Under first-year head coach Mike Kellar, Concord surprised college football observers by finishing 6-5 last season, a decided improvement from an 0-11 finish in 2008.

Kellar added to his reputation as an offensive mastermind in his rookie season in Athens. Under his tutelage, the Mountain Lions posted startling gains from '08 to '09 in several offensive categories.
The CU rushing attack went from 79.8 yards per game to 227. The passing game went from 106.1 yards per game to 234. In total offense, CU's 461 yards per game in 2009 was nearly 250% better than the 185.9 average the season before.
The CU uprising also showed on the scoreboard. The Mountain Lions averaged 33.2 points per game in 2009, nearly triple the 11.2 posted the prior year.

Concord returns a pair of juniors who are among Division II's most dangerous players – wide
receiver Thomas Mayo and running back Brian Kennedy.

Thomas Mayo

Mayo (left) led the nation with 124.4 receiving yards per game. His 1368 total receiving yards set a Concord record. He also caught 11 touchdown passes and became Concord's first-ever Harlan Hill Award regional finalist.
Brian Kennedy

Kennedy (right) led the WVIAC with 1505 yards rushing (136.8 per game) and 17 touchdowns. He add
ed 27 pass receptions for 227 yards and three more TDs.

Lindy's magazine and Consensus Draft Services have named Mayo as a 2010 pre-season NC
AA Division II All-American. CDS has tabbed Kennedy as an Honorable Mention.

The Mountain Lions return nine starters on offense and defense. CU opens its 2010 season with a non-conference contest against Southern Virginia University on Thursday, August 26th, at Callaghan Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm EDT.

Concord Football will be broadcast on ESPN Radio 102.3 FM The Ticket, with webcasting available at
