Following Concord Football's surprising 6-5 turnaround season in 2009, the Mountain Lions' 2010 campaign is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated in recent memory.
CU is already receiving national attention.
Lindy's magazine has picked junior wide receiver Thomas Mayo as a 2010 pre-season NCAA Division II All-American.
Meanwhile, Consensus Draft Services has tabbed Mayo as a pre-season 2nd Team All-American, while naming CU running back Brian Kennedy as an Honorable Mention.
Last season, Mayo led the nation with a Concord-record 1368 Total Receiving Yards and 124.4 Receiving Yards Per Game. It was the fifth-best season in West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history. He also caught 11 touchdown passes.
In all, Mayo caught 72 passes and averaged 19.0 yards per catch. He went over 100 yards receiving in seven of CU's 11 games. He also rushed seven times for 66 yards, an average of 9.7 yards per carry.
Mayo earned All-WVIAC First Team honors, a spot on the d2football.com All-American 2nd Team and became Concord's first-ever Harlan Hill Award regional finalist.
Kennedy led the WVIAC last season with 1505 yards rushing. He averaged 136.8 yards per game and 6.9 yards per carry while running for 17 touchdowns. He added 27 pass receptions for 228 yards and three more TDs, not to mention 14 kickoff returns for an average of 24.4 yards.
All in all, Kennedy totaled 2075 all-purpose yards, or 188.6 yards per game.
He earned All-WVIAC First Team honors and a spot on the Daktronics All-Super Region 1 team.
