LADY LIONS END REGULAR SEASON WITH ROUT OF SALEM INTERNATIONAL

When you're playing this well, you don't want to stop.

But that's what the Concord Women's Soccer team must do, at least for a while.

The Lady Lions closed their regular season with a 9-0 rout of Salem International in a non-conference match Saturday in Athens.

The win was the fifth in a row for Concord, which won't play again until the first round of the WVIAC Tournament on Monday, November 1. CU has outscored its opponents 28-2 during its current win streak.

On Senior Day at Anderson Field, Concord completely dominated its former WVIAC foe. The Lady Lions fired 33 shots, 22 of them on goal, while preventing Salem International from even attempting a shot.

The first goal came from a senior. Gemma Nortcliffe scored in the 10th minute, assisted by fellow senior Kelsey Ballard.
Erika Hoff scored in the 20th minute, assisted by senior Lindsey DeVaughn, and Concord took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Lady Lions blew open the game early in the second half with an outburst of three goals in the span of 2:35. Nortcliffe scored an unassisted goal at 48:56, Ballard did the same at 49:57, and Hoff closed the trifecta with a goal at 51:31, assisted again by DeVaughn.

The barrage resumed when DeVaughn put in an unassisted goal at 58:04. Ballard got her second goal at 62:44, assisted by Nortcliffe.
At 69:26, senior Cassandra Fortino scored, off DeVaughn's third assist, to stretch the lead to 8-0.
Ballard secured a hat trick when she scored off an assist by Molly Hopkins at 89:14.

Saturday was the final regular season home match for seniors Ballard, DeVaughn, Fortino, Katrina Nagy, Nortcliffe and Kaitlyn Tomasic.

Up next for CU is the first round of the WVIAC Tournament, with the opponent and site to be determined.
