Concord University's Department of Athletics has announced that Men's Tennis player Filip Crvenkovic has won the Ira Blankenship Leadership Scholarship for the 2009-2010 school year.
Filip is a junior from Zagreb, Croatia, majoring in Business. He's three-year member of the men's tennis team, and plans to graduate this spring after just three years at Concord.
This yearly scholarship is given to the returning player who has done the most to contribute to the success of the team, on and off the court.
“Filip has been great in helping me to communicate with the players,” said Mountain Lions head coach Joe Blankenship. “Sometimes the times for matches or practices change at the last minute due to weather, and without Filip we would have had some players left at the station and not on the bus.
“As a player, Filip has a never-die attitude and is willing to play where and when he's needed,” Blankenship continued. “Having him in our program for only three years is disappointing, but knowing that he's on the road to do great things is very satisfying. Here in the United States or home in Croatia, Filip will be a success and will be a quality representative of Concord University as he goes out and challenges the world.”
The scholarship is named in honor of Ira Blankenship, a former athletic director/coach/instructor at Concord. Blankenship was an outstanding athlete, a dedicated professor, and an outstanding athletic administrator. His dedication to Concord, its students and the athletic department continued throughout his life.
