Athens, WV- Concord welcomed in their cross town rival in Bluefield State as they were playing for their seniors in Anthony Lansdowne and Dannie Parker. But that is not all they were playing for as they were battling for a first round home game. Concord needed some help to do that but they had to beat Bluefield State College first. Concord outscored BSC 35-18 in the final 10:31 to defeat the Big Blues 81-64.
Bluefield State was hoping to spoil senior and the Mountain Lions hope of a first round WVIAC game as they began the game on a 7-0 run. Concord would tie the game around the 13 minute mark, but the Big Blues would continue to press Concord.
Bluefield State continued to hold a 7 point at the 8 minute mark the first half but they could not hold down the Lions. Concord tied the game at 26 with 2:48 on clock. They would finally take the lead at 28-26 with 46 seconds left in the half.
Rafee Smith would hit another jumper from the free throw line with only 9 seconds left to give the Mountain Lions the halftime lead at 30-26.
Bluefield State would lead on two different occasions in the second half, but only for a brief minute. Concord would finally go up for good at the 10:31 mark.
The Mountain Lions were down 46-45 at just under 11 minute mark. Concord would go on 11-0 before ending the game by outscoring the Blues 35-18. Concord defeated their rival 81-64.
The two seniors both had good days for the Mountain Lions. Dannie Parker led all scorers with 26 points and 13 rebounds. The other senior Anthony Lansdowne had 7 points. Rafee Smith added 16 points and Matt Parker put in 14 points.
Concord (14-13, WVIAC 9-11), despite the win will be on the road in the first round because of an upset win by Shepherd over UPJ. Concord will be traveling to Elkins, WV, to face the D and E Senators on Tuesday, February 26th at 7:30pm. The Mountain Lions beat Davis and Elkins on February 11th 83-68 at the Carter Center.
