Strong Second Half Propels Concord to Win Over #16 Glenville State

Athens, WV- In the resent past the Glenville State Lady Pioneers have dominated the WVIAC. However, Concord has begun to change the culture. The Lady Lions welcomed in and defeated #16 Glenville State 69-64.

The game began very slowly as the score at the 15 minute of the first half was 4-2 in favor of the Lady Lions. The game from their would pick up and be exciting. The Lady Lions struggled from the floor in the first only shooting 38% from the floor, but with a perfect 6-6 from the foul stripe Concord remained  in the game.

The Lady Pioneers, who won the WVIAC conference tournament last season took the half time lead. The Lady Lions trailed 34-31 at the break.

In the second half the Lady Lions' three headed senior monster in Jamie Cluesman, Samm Nester, and Becca Flanagan took over the game. They began by shutting down the leading scorer in the first half in Mallory Menendez. Menendez scored 15 points in the first half on a 5-7 shooting from behind the arc. Cluesman's glue tight defense held Menendez to only 3 points in the second half off of 1-4 performance.

Concord did what they to best as they very subtly and confidently pushed ahead of the Lady Pioneers and lead by at many as 7 points. Glenville State could never recover as the Lady Lions shot lights out from the foul line down the stretch. Concord would finish 18-22 from the charity stripe for the game.

The Lady Lions revenged their semi-final loss to the Lady Pioneers from a season ago by defeating them 69-64.

Leading the way for the Lady Lions was a host of players Becca Flanagan ended the game with 14 points and 3 boards. Samm Nester ended with 12 points and 5 boards. Jamie Cluesman nearly had a three double as she has 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists. Amber Showalter, who played with charisma and passion, finished the game with 11 points and 8 rebounds.

Concord (3-1, 2-0 WVIAC) will in Charleston next Saturday, December 15th at 5:30pm.
