Weitzel ran 14:23.42 in the 5,00-meter run at the GVSU Holiday Open hosted by Grand Valley State, breaking his own indoor school record in the event. The Athens, West Virginia native placed seventh in the event, and his time is an NCAA Division II Provisional mark. Weitzel currently ranks 18th nationally in the event.
