Weitzel was named the Mountain East Conference Freshman of the Year after winning both the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000-meter run at the MEC Championships at West Virginia Wesleyan. Weitzel won the steeplechase in meet record time of 9:39.27. Weitzel returned Sunday to win the 5,000-meters by three seconds clocking a time of 15:37.04. Weitzel also finished third in the 10,000-meter run.
