Wes McKinney

The 2025-26 academic year will be the 13th year for Wes McKinney in the Concord University Sports Information Department.

After serving as the assistant SID from August 2013 to August 2014, McKinney was appointed as the interim head SID in September 2014. He assumed the full-time SID job in February 2015.

McKinney is a 2013 graduate of Concord receiving his degree in Communications with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism. He received the Communication Student of the Year Award in the spring of 2013.

For his coverage of the Concord men's and women's track & field teams, McKinney was awarded the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) Excellence in Communcations in June 2020. 

McKinney is the Atlantic Region Coordinator for the D2SIDA Men's Basketball National Poll and D2CCA Men's Soccer All-Region Teams. He is also a member of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA).

A native of Masontown, West Virginia in Preston County, McKinney worked closely with the campus SID from 2011-2013 assisting with gameday duties such as public address announcer for men’s and women’s basketball as well as football. The biggest asset he provided to the Sports Information Department as an undergraduate was the launch of Concord TV, a video segment on cumountainlions.com showcasing Mountain Lion athletes, coaches and game highlights.

From 2010-2013, McKinney also co-hosted The Emmy G and Wes Mac Afternoon Show on the campus radio station, WVCU.

In the past, he has interned with The Dominion Post in Morgantown, West Virginia and West Virginia Radio and West Virginia Metronews primarily covering high school sports across the state.

McKinney and his wife, Kristine, reside in Princeton with their infant twin daughters, Avery and Carly.
