Trent Howard begins his fifth season as the head men's golf coach at Concord in addition to his duties as the assistant men's basketball coach for head coach Todd May.Â
The first season for Howard as the head men's coach at Concord was very successful in 2019-20. The Mountain Lions took home their first MEC Championship in men's golf in five years as three golfers--Noah Clark, Brett Laxton and Carson Proffitt--finished in the top five at the MEC Championship. The same trio were All-MEC First Teamers under Howard's tutelage.Â
Howard had also coached Concord to a second straight NCAA Regional appearance before the season was cancelled in mid-March by the COVID-19 pandemic.Â
The Mountain Lions followed up the conference championship season with a fourth-place finish at the MEC Championship in the spring of 2021. CU had five golfers named All-MEC which were the most since 2012-13. The 2021 Mountain Lions were led by All-MEC Second Team selections Clark and Laxton.Â
During the 2021-22 season, Clark and Laxton were named All-MEC. Furthermore, Clark qualified for the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Championship under Howard's guidance.
Â
Howard came to Concord after a two-year stint as a graduate assistant for the men's basketball program at the University of Akron on head coach John Groce's staff. Overall, Howard spent five seasons affiliated with Akron as he served as a team manager for the Zips the previous three seasons.Â
Â
Under Groce, Howard assumed a larger role which his main responsibilities included assisting with opponent scouting, player development, academics, and day-to-day operations. Previously, Howard served as a manager and practice squad player for three seasons under head coach Keith Dambrot.
The Upper Sandusky, Ohio graduated magna cum laude with a political science degree from Akron in 2016 and completed his master of business administration (MBA) from the University in May 2019.
