Murphy comes to Concord from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana where he spent the last three seasons guiding the Pumas offense.

SJC was known for its ground attack under Murphy as they averaged over 200 yards a game on the ground in two of his three seasons as offensive coordinator including 242 yards rushing per game in 2014. During the 2014 campaign, Murphy's offense led the Great Lakes Valley Conference in total offense with 417 yards per game. The Pumas averaged 30 points per game two seasons ago as well.

Murphy has had two coaching stints at St. Joseph's as he coached running backs in 2006 and defensive linemen and special teams in 2007 during his two-year stay.

In between coaching stints at his alma mater, Murphy was an assistant coach at Seton Hill, a former member of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

While at SHU for five seasons (2008-12), the 2006 graduate of St. Joseph's was in charge of the team's tight ends and wide receivers.
