PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The Concord University volleyball team fell in four sets to Pikeville Wednesday night in a non-conference clash at the UPike Gymnasium.

The set scores were 29-31, 19-25, 25-23, 18-25.

Neither team was able to gain an advantage in the first set as the biggest lead came at 16-13 for Concord (3-6) after a service ace by senior outside hitter Meg Williams. The Bears (8-3) made a run to take a 22-18 lead. However, five of the next six points were scored by CU as a Williams kill tied the set at 23-23. Another kill by Williams gave Concord set point at 25-24, but the Mountain Lions unable to close the deal.

Trailing 2-0 in the match, the Mountain Lions put together a third set where they held UPike to .122 hitting. In the process, CU ran out to a 9-4 advantage and still led 15-11 after a kill from junior right side Maddie Stull. But again, Pikeville surged to go up 20-18. Trailing 23-21, a kill from senior middle hitter Jasmine Anderson got Concord within a point before three straight attack errors from Pikeville allowed CU to take the set.

Trying to force a decisive fifth set, the Maroon and Gray never led in the fourth game.

Stull paced the offense with a season-best 15 kills. Williams and sophomore middle hitter Addie Adkins each tossed in 10 kills.

Senior libero Allie Davis had a career-best 35 digs. Senior setter Paige Richmond finished with a double-double of 22 assists and 13 digs. Williams had her own double-double as she added 11 digs.

The Mountain Lions host the Concord Classic this weekend, beginning with matches against Shaw and Elizabeth at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Friday inside the Carter Center
