Concord Plays to Scoreless Draw at Chowan

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Concord University men's soccer team finished its road game at Chowan in a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

Concord (1-0-1) outshot the Hawks (0-1-1) 15-7 in the game, and held Chowan to one shot on goal, but was unable to break through.

Senior forward Dominique Malhomme and sophomore midfielder Koya Nakamrura each had two shots in the first 16 minutes with Nakamura's 16th-minute shot clanging off the crossbar. The Mountain Lions took a total of eight shots in the first 45 minutes.

Junior forward Stephane Shongo took a pair of shots in the 52nd and 55th minutes, but CU remained deadlocked with Chowan. Malhomme was denied in the 75th minute, and 10 minutes later sophomore forward Keeyan Thomas had a shot blocked as it was the final attempt of the game for the Mountain Lions.

Junior goalkeeper Iori Tanaka made his only save of the game in the 17th minute to register his second straight clean sheet to begin the year.

Malhomme led CU with four shots while taking half of Concord's four shots on target. Shongo and Thomas both had three shots in the contest.

The Mountain Lions recorded seven of the game's nine corner kicks.

Concord opens up Mountain East Conference play at nationally-ranked Charleston 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 6.
