WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Concord University volleyball team fell in a pair of matches at the Rollins College Invitational Friday afternoon, losing to Southern Connecticut State and the host Rollins.

Match 1: Southern Connecticut State 3 – Concord 1 (25-20, 22-25, 18-25, 18-25)
CU (0-1) hit a blistering .433 in the first set, but could not carry it over to later in the match.

Though Concord hit north of .400 in the first set, the Mountain Lions could not shake off Southern Connecticut State until a kill by senior middle hitter Jasmine Anderson opened up a 19-14 edge. The lead grew to six, 23-17, after a kill by senior outside hitter Chloe Thompson. Then, an attack error by SCSU closed out the first set for the Mountain Lions.

The second set featured eight ties and four lead changes as CU held a 20-19 lead on a kill by Anderson, but the Owls countered with three straight points as they went ahead 22-20. Senior outside hitter Meg Williams helped claw Concord back to tie the set at 22-22. However, it was SCSU that made the final run.

Southern Connecticut State scored 10 of the first 15 points in the third set, and CU was only able to get back to within 11-7. A run by the Owls towards the middle of the fourth game allowed them to take a 16-10 lead.

Concord hit .156 for the match.

Thompson netted 12 kills and hit .258. Williams tossed in 11 kills. Senior libero Allie Davis went for 23 digs while senior setter Paige Richmond threw in 17 assists.

Match 2: Rollins 3 – Concord 0 (22-25, 13-25, 20-25)
The Mountain Lions were unable to keep pace with powerful Tars offense.

Concord went toe-to-toe with Rollins in the first set as it featured 11 ties and five lead changes. Back-to-back attack errors by RC pushed Concord ahead 17-16. But, CU was unable to put the set away as Rollins won by three points.

An 11-5 spurt to begin the second set was too much for the Mountain Lions to overcome. And it was a similar story in the third set as Rollins jumped out to a 12-6 edge.

Sophomore middle hitter Addie Adkins notched seven kills. Thompson and Williams each had six.

Richmond and fellow senior Haley Sweeney each had 11 assists.

The Mountain Lions are back in action at the Rollins Invitational 12:00 p.m. Saturday against St. Mary's before closing out the tournament against Ursuline at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
