EMORY, Va. – The Concord University baseball team dropped a 16-6 decision to Emory & Henry Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference contest at Porterfield-DeVault Field.
Down 7-1 after four innings, Concord (8-21) battled back to within three runs late in the game before falling to the Wasps (9-23).
The Mountain Lions plated a run in the top of the second as senior catcher
Austin Hear belted his first home run of the season to cut CU's margin to 2-1, at the time. However, E&H answered with a five-run fourth inning to take a commanding lead.
Sophomore utility
Braylen Baker aided in the comeback attempt with his first career home run, a two-run shot in the top of the seventh to get Concord within 7-3. But, Emory & Henry responded in the bottom half of the frame with two of its own runs.
The biggest inning for the Mountain Lions came in the top of the eighth.

Sam Stowe to rip a double to right field, scoring two and getting the deficit to 9-6.
The three-run margin was as close as Concord would get as the Wasps scored seven times in the bottom of the eighth.

Nick DiSanti was 3-for-5. Baker and Stowe each drove in two runs.
Freshman pitcher
Ethan Evans (1-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing five earned runs over 3.2 innings to start the game.
CU begins Mountain East Conference South Division play with a four-game series at Davis & Elkins, starting 1:00 p.m. Friday.
