Concord Plates 20 Runs in Win Over Shepherd

ATHENS, W.Va.  The Concord University baseball team took game one of a three-game series against Shepherd Friday afternoon at Anderson Field winning 20-11.

Concord (3-5) scored at least one run in every inning, and collected 17 hits as it cruised to a win over the Rams (5-2).

An RBI single by senior outfielder Korbin Bostic brought in junior infielder Nick DiSanti in the bottom of the first for the lone run in the frame.

Shepherd bounced back in the top of the second, taking a 2-1 advantage.

Concord's bats got right back to work in the second. With two runners on, redshirt sophomore Atticus Goodson ripped a double into the left center field gap to score one run. Senior infielder Matthew DiSanti followed it up with a single through the left side of the infield to bring home both Mountain Lions and put CU up 4-2.

The bottom of the third inning saw even more hits for Concord. Bostic led the inning off with a towering home run to right field. Senior infielder Tyson Burke doubled to left center, bringing home another run. After a run scored on a wild pitch, M. DiSanti picked up another single to score Burke from third. The Mountain Lions led 8-2 after three innings.

Shepherd used a three-run home run to spark a four-run rally in the fourth to get within 8-6.

However, Concord answered with its own four runs in the bottom of the inning. Senior catcher Austin Hear had an RBI double in the inning while senior infielder Tyson Burke and senior catcher Kaden Swaim each had an RBI single.

The next big swing came in the bottom of the seventh inning. Already up 15-9, Goodson pushed the lead to eight with a two-run home run out to right field—his second homer of the year.

M. DiSanti collected three hits and a team-leading five RBI. Bostic went 2-for-2 with a solo homer, a single and four walks. Burke joined with two hits and four walks as both Mountain Lions reached base all six times they came to the dish. Goodson went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a double, tallying four RBI.

Burke drove in three runs as five players recorded at least two RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Braylen Baker (1-0) earned his first victory of the season. Out of the bullpen, Baker went two innings, gave up one run and finished with two strikeouts. Senior pitcher Logan Darrow struck out five in four innings in his first start of the year.

The 20 runs scored by CU were the most since April 2024 when it put up 33 against Davis & Elkins.

The Mountain Lions finish their series with Shepherd with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
