Concord Downs Glenville State for 2-1 Win

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team used two second-half goals to slip past Glenville State Sunday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference contest at Morris Stadium.

CU (4-9-2, 4-7-2 MEC) and Glenville State (8-7, 8-5 MEC) were scoreless in the first 45 minutes of the game as the Mountain Lions trailed in first-half shots, 6-4.

However, it was the Mountain Lions that scored first when sophomore midfielder Daisy Cook tapped in a deflected cross from junior midfielder Eve Harriott in the 54th minute. For Cook, it was her team-leading seventh goal of the season while Harriott tallied her first career assist.

GSU needed less than three minutes to tie the game at 1-1 when a foul was called in the penalty box in the 56th minute.

Concord answered in less than 10 minutes when sophomore defender Jadyn Munford scored her first career goal in the 64th minute. Glenville State's defense was able to clear the ball out of the penalty area, but the clearance landed on the foot of Munford, and from 45 yards the Fort Collins, Colorado native hit a curling shot to the top left corner to push CU up 2-1.

Over the last 25 minutes, the Pioneers only tallied two shots with junior goalkeeper Maddie Loughborough saving an 86th-minute shot to preserve the one-goal win.

The Mountain Lions outshot GSU 10-4 after halftime as they finished with a 14-10 edge in total shots. Nine Concord shots were on goal.

Four of the five shots for Cook were on frame while junior midfielder Stephanie Tovar recorded two shots on goal in the first half, and three total for the game.

Loughborough saved four shots.

The Mountain Lions have another critical MEC South tilt 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at West Virginia Wesleyan.
