LIGHT IT UP
CU continued its hot shooting from three-point range in a 97-62 win over West Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday night. The Mountain Lions netted 15 three-pointers for the second straight game while shooting 51.7 percent from three-point distance (15-for-29). The games against Salem and West Virginia Wesleyan marked the first time since January 2019 that Concord made 30 three-pointers in a two-game stretch. And by shooting over 50 percent from beyond the arc at WVWC, the Mountain Lions became the third team in the MEC—joining Charleston and Frostburg State—to shoot above 50 percent from three-point distance in two or more games this season. CU shot 52 percent (13-for-25) on three-pointers at Fairmont State. Junior guard Khamani Wertz scored in double figures for the first time in his CU career with 12 points on 4-of-5 from three-point distance. Sophomore guard Josiah Rickards is 5-for-9 from three-point land in his last two games while fellow sophomore guard Brendan Hoffman is 4-for-7 in those same two games.

KEEP PASSING
A game after setting a season high with 25 assists, the Maroon and Gray did one better at West Virginia Wesleyan with 26 assists on 36 made field goals. The 26 assists are tied for the second highest amount in a single game in the MEC this season. Wertz finished with six assists at Wesleyan which was one shy of his career high set last season during his time at Belmont Abbey. In seven games this year, Wertz has 26 assists to just six turnovers. Rickards added four assists, and over his last four games the Chesapeake, Virginia native has 16 assists with only three turnovers. Sophomore forward Kraig Gilbert and junior forward Anfernee Hanna both tallied four assists Wednesday. The 26 assists were the most for the Mountain Lions since a school-record tying 27 assists at UVa.-Wise in January 2016.

GUARD THE ARC
Not only did CU scorch the nets at West Virginia Wesleyan, the Mountain Lions limited the Bobcats to two made three-pointers on 13 tries (15.4 percent). It marks the third straight year that Concord has held an opponent to two or fewer made triples in a game. Last season, the Maroon and Gray gave up just two three-pointers to West Virginia State in an MEC Tournament Quarterfinal win. And earlier during the 2024-25 season, CU only allowed two made triples to West Virginia State in a regular-season meeting. In wins over Salem and West Virginia Wesleyan, the Mountain Lions' defense limited the teams to 6-for-25 from three-point range. Concord allows the second-fewest made three-pointers in the MEC (6.9 per game).

SIZZLING SHOOTERS
Concord's three-point defense will be put to the test Saturday afternoon against a Davis & Elkins team that has made 52 three-pointers in the last five games. Additionally, the Senators have shot 44 percent or better from three-point range in three of those five games. Like CU, Davis & Elkins has hindered teams from the three-point line, giving up just 7.5 triples per game, while holding teams to 33.8 percent from beyond the arc. The Mountain Lions are seeking to make 10 or more three-pointers for a fourth straight game, a feat that hasn't been accomplished since the end of the 2021-22 season. Individually, Gilbert is third in Division II in three-point percentage (51.5/34-for-66). D&E's Tristan Starks has made 22 three-pointers and shoots 46.8 percent from three-pint distance.

GOTTA DEFEND
Ahead of Saturday's game, Concord and Davis & Elkins both average 83 points per game which is top half in the MEC. D&E shoots 46.5 percent from the floor for the season while CU is just behind at 46.1 percent, fifth and sixth in the conference, respectively. The Mountain Lions are throwing in 8.8 three-pointers per game. The Senators are similar with 8.6 triples per game. But, the defense is a stark contrast between the two. Concord is second in the MEC in scoring defense (74.0) and is one of three teams in the conference holding teams under 45 percent shooting. Meanwhile, Davis & Elkins gives up 82.8 points per game while allowing teams to shoot 47.6 percent. Over the last three seasons, Concord is 30-5 when it allows less than 80 points in a game.

SURGING PAST THE SENATORS
From January 2021 to February 2023, CU was just 4-3 against Davis & Elkins. However, the Mountain Lions enter Saturday having won five straight versus D&E, including beating D&E three times during the 2023-24 season. Last season at Davis & Elkins, Concord trailed for more than 35 minutes of regulation and was down as much as 11 points before forcing overtime and winning 78-73. Gilbert had 11 points and eight rebounds. At home in mid-February, the Maroon and Gray cruised to an 81-66 victory. Rickards netted 10 points in the game. Defensively, Concord held the Senators to 35.6 percent shooting. In four of the last five meetings, CU has held Davis & Elkins to 40 percent or less shooting.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
6- During its seven-game winning streak, Concord has scored 50 or more points in the second half six times.

35- Margin of victory for CU at West Virginia Wesleyan was the largest win for Concord since December 2016.

54.5- Field-goal percentage at West Virginia Wesleyan was the highest of the season.

SCOUTING THE SENATORS
Davis & Elkins canned 17 three-pointers in an 91-86 loss to Glenville State Wednesday night. Starks hit 7-of-9 three-pointers. Nnadozie Okoroji was good on half of his eight three-point attempts. The Senators have lost three straight games, but those losses are by a combined 13 points. Last Saturday, D&E took nationally-ranked West Liberty to the wire before falling 101-97 in Elkins. Vegas Evans is sixth in the MEC in scoring (17.0) and third in rebounding (8.2). Matthew Gray throws in 15.6 points per game while Noah Adamczyk adds 11.3 points per game. Davis & Elkins has only made seven more foul shots than CU (182-175) despite taking nearly 30 more attempts (260-231). D&E shoots 70 percent from the free-throw stripe, tenth in the MEC.
