OPENING TIP
The Concord University women's basketball hosts Fairmont State in high stakes Mountain East contest at 5:30 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Mountain Lions late comeback came up just short against the fast-paced Pioneers of Glenville State. Concord showed great resiliency, reducing a 19 point lead to just four points late in the fourth quarter, but ultimately fell 91-86. In the defeat, senior guard
Kennedy Scales had a fantastic game. The Salem, Virginia native dropped a career high 22 points, going 8-of-15 from the field, including three shots from beyond the arc. Senior forward
Abbie Smith secured her 11th double-double of the year with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Smith also continued her hot streak from the foul line, going 6-6. Sophomore guard
Kenyah Stubbs was just one rebound shy of the program's third ever triple-double. She finished with 15 points, 11 assists, and nine rebounds against her former squad.
SHARE THE WEALTH
Concord did a great job of sharing the ball against the Pioneers, passing out 22 assists in the game. This is the second highest mark of the season for CU, and they were 2-0 on the season when having 20 or more assists. Stubbs topped the charts with 11 assists, racking up seven in the first half alone. Junior guard
Kiley Smich dished out six assists as both guards set their career highs in the stat. Scales tallied three assists in the loss. Senior forward
Olivia Ziolkowski and junior guard
Alexis Frazee each had an assist as well. Concord holds a record of 10-3 when they have more assists than its opponents in 2025-26.
USING THE THREE BALL
The three-point shot kept Concord in the game against Glenville State. CU uncorked 23 threes, netting 10 of them. This is good for a 43.5 percent, the fourth best clip of the season for Concord. Against GSU, Scales knocked down three triples to lead the Mountain Lions. Five other players hit a shot from three-point range in the game. Frazee and Smich each hit two shots from deep. The trio of freshman guards,
Cadence Blackburn,
Lacee Smith, and
Nasiya Smith all hit one three off the bench. The Mountain Lions used the three-ball to mount their comeback, hitting five threes in the fourth quarter. On the season, the Mountain Lions have the third best percentage on threes in the conference, sitting at 32.1 percent.
SECOND CHANCES
CU had a fantastic game on the glass against Glenville State, who entered the game as the MEC's best offensive rebounding team. It was Concord who came away with the rebounding advantage, securing 56 rebounds in the game. This is the most for Concord this season and third most in an MEC game. The Mountain Lions came away with a +17 rebounding margin and a whopping 19 offensive rebounds. This is the most offensive rebounds by Concord this season. It led to 27 second-chance points, yet another seaosn high for the Mountain Lions. On the offenisve boards, A. Smith led with six offenisve rebounds. Behind her, Smich corralled three and Scales brought down two. Concord posts a 6-4 record when they outrebound their opponents.
PROTECT THE ROCK
Turnovers ultimately cost Concord in the close loss to Glenville State and will be a huge focal point against Fairmont State. The Fighting Falcons average 13.5 steals per game as a unit and have three of the top five spots in terms of individuals who take away the ball. In their first matchup, the Mountain Lions had 31 turnovers which tied their most in a game this season. Despite this, Concord only lost by six on the road to a then-ranked Fairmont squad. The numbers speak for themselves on this, when Concord takes care of the ball, they win. The Mountain Lions are 8-0 when having fewer turnovers than their opponents and 8-1 when committing fewer than 15 turnovers.
REDEMPTION
In their prior meeting this season, Fairmont State took down Concord with a 76-70 victory at Joe Retton Arena. Frazee led Concord off the bench, pouring in 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting and nailing six triples. A. Smith was the other Mountain Lion in double figures with 14 points. The two teams have split each of the last two seasons, with the home team winning every matchup since Fairmont State swept Concord in 2022-23. Concord has faired well against the Fighting Falcons at home, winning two straight inside the Carter Center by a combined 41 points.

3 -Â The Mountain Lions look for their third straight win over Fairmont State in Athens.
35Â -
Abbie Smith needs 35 points to break into the top five in Concord history. She currently has 1,687 career points.
