Mizzell Tabbed MEC Offensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Sophomore quarterback Tyler Mizzell of the Concord University football team has been selected as the Mountain East Conference Offensive Player of the Week, presented by The Health Plan, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Mizzell, a native of Denver, North Carolina is the MEC Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 314 yards and four touchdowns in Concord's 38-31 loss at Bluefield State Saturday afternoon. Mizzell also ran for 49 yards. Mizzell had a pair of touchdown tosses in the first half as he connected on scores of 33 and 35 yards in the second half. He added passing touchdowns of 21 and 23 yards in the second half as CU rallied from a 38-14 to close within 38-31 in the fourth quarter.

He found six different receivers among his 23 completions on Saturday.

After two weeks of game, Mizzell is second in Division II in passing yards (703) and tied for third in passing touchdowns (seven). Mizzell is the first CU quarterback to open up the season with back-to-back 300-yard games in program history.

Marshawn Mankins of West Virginia State was the MEC Defensive Player of the Week. Fairmont State kicker Emmanuel Richardson was this week's conference special teams player of the week.

The Mountain Lions are off this week, but return to action at Charleston September 20 for the first MEC game of the season.
