TWO-WAY PLAYERS
In Concord's record-setting campaign last season, the CU backline played a vital part not only in keeping opponents off the scoreboard, but aiding in the scoring for the Mountain Lions. Three of the four starters on the Concord backline, senior defender Kai Forsyth, junior Zakari Messam and senior Ted Roberts, scored at least two goals. And Roberts finished second on the team and top 10 in the MEC in assists with six. Forsyth enters his senior season as a two-time All-Mountain East Conference First Team performer.

PACKING THE OFFENSIVE PUNCH
Not only does Concord have experience on the backline, but the Maroon and Gray returns two of its top four scorers from 2024. Senior midfielder Malher Santi Possu netted 10 goals last year despite only playing in 14 games. For Santi Possu, it was just one of six 10-goal seasons in program history. Senior forward Richard Henry led Concord with eight assists while finishing in a tie for fourth on the team in goals scored (six).

STEP UP
A year after the Mountain Lions went 3-1 in regular-season non-conference games and outscored the opposition 13-3 in the victories, CU faces a stiff test right out of the box in Chowan. The Hawks are just two years removed from winning the Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. Chowan has had a winning record in 10 of the last 11 seasons.

GROUNDING THE HAWKS
Thursday will be the fifth time that Concord and Chowan square off in men's soccer all-time.  The home team won each previous meeting ahead of Thursday's neutral-site tilt. The explosive CU offense from a season ago will be matched up against a stingy Chowan defense that only allowed 20 goals in 17 games last season that included five shutouts. The Mountain Lions were only shut out once last fall.

KEEP THE STREAK GOING
Concord has had a positive result in three straight games against Frostburg State to pull within 5-3-3 in the all-time series. Concord won at FSU 2-0 last season—that was after the Mountain Lions rallied late for a 1-1 tie at home. The Maroon and Gray blitzed FSU for a 3-0 win in October 2023. Henry's 89th-minute goal helped CU earn a point at home last year. Roberts scored in the 57th minute for one of two Mountain Lion goals on October 12 of last season. Senior goalkeeper Nathan Scargill made five saves to preserve the clean sheet.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS
Chowan scored 32 goals last season, but has to replace 14 of those with the departure of Junior Smith. Sam Deacon is the top returning scorer for the Hawks with four goals and five assists a season ago. Matty Doyle chipped in three goals and two assists. The top returning goalkeeper for Chowan is Alexis Enriquez who spent just 193 minutes in net last year.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
A year after finishing fourth in the MEC and advancing to the conference tournament semifinals, FSU was picked eighth in the MEC Preseason Coaches' Poll. However, the Bobcats return their top scorer in Carlos Quintero Rivas (11 goals) and goalkeeper Jan Foret who saved just under 80 percent of shots that came his way. Frostburg State was better on the road last season, going 5-3-1 away from Bobcat Stadium, as opposed to 5-5 at home.
