BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Sophomore quarterback
Tyler Mizzell of the Concord University football team has been voted as the Mountain East Conference Offensive Player of the Week, presented by The Health Plan, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Mizzell, a native of Denver, North Carolina, earns the award for the second time this season. He also shared this week's MEC Offensive Player with West Virginia State wide receiver Amare Ary.
In leading the Mountain Lions to a 44-21 win over West Liberty in the home opener Saturday afternoon, Mizzell completed 23-of-30 passes for a career-best 391 yards and three touchdowns. He connected on touchdown tosses of four and 70 yards to redshirt freshman wide receiver
Dom Collins in the first half before finding sophomore wide receiver
Que Moore for a 34-yard score in the third quarter.
Mizzell finished his day by completing 11 of his final 12 passes, and his 391 yards are the most in the MEC in a single game this season. In fact, Mizzell has four of the five top passing games in the league in 2025.
Along with Mizzell and Ary, the other MEC Weekly Honorees were WVSU's Gemel Smith (defense) and Fairmont State's Emmanuel Richardson (special teams).
At 2-2 this season, Concord travels to face the only unbeaten team left in the MEC, Frostburg State, 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
