QB1
Despite losing at Charleston in their third game of the season, the Mountain Lions got another big performacne from sophomore quarterback Tyler Mizzell. The Denver, North Carolina native threw for 350 yards and three touchdowns. Mizzell now leads Division II in passing yards per game (351.0) and total offense per game (374.0). Additionally, Mizzell's 10 touchdowns are tied for sixth in Division II. Only one quarterback ahead of Mizzell has played the same amount of games, three. Mizzell's three straight games of 300 passing yards to start the season is the longest for a CU signal caller since Jack Mangel finished the 2022 season with six straight 300-yard passing games. Mizzell will face a West Liberty passing defense this week that surrenders just 158.3 yards per game. However, the Hilltoppers have given up nine passing touchdowns in four games.

DYNAMIC DUO
Redshirt freshman wide receiver Dom Collins and sophomore wide receiver Que Moore have both caught at least one touchdown in all three games. The duo has accounted for eight of Mizzell's 10 touchdown passes. All three of Moore's touchdowns have come in the first half this season while Collins was held to one touchdown at Charleston, but he recorded CU's longest play from scrimmage this season, a 72-yard reception for a score in the third quarter from Mizzell. The last time Concord had two different receivers catch at least one touchdown in three straight games was Jarod Bowie and Kris Copeland when they accomplished the feat in 2022 against Charleston, West Virginia State and Wheeling. Collins and Moore are two of nine receivers in the MEC with two or more touchdowns this year.

CRITICAL DOWN
Going up against the best third-down defense in Division II entering last week, Concord converted 6-of-13 third downs against a Charleston team that had only allowed three third downs in 32 tries through three games. CU is inside the top 50 in Division II, out of 157 teams, in third-down conversion rate (43.8 percent). Since 2010, the only Concord team to finish with a third-down rate above 40 percent is the  2022 team that finished over 47 percent on third down. This weekend, the Mountain Lions go up against a West Liberty defense that is allowing opponents to convert 45.5 percent of its third downs (20-of-44). Last year at WLU, CU was only 3-for-11 on third downs.

SCOTT THE STOPPER
Junior defensive back Nehemiah Scott has notched 10 tackles in each of Concord's three games this season. Scott's 30 tackles are fifth in the MEC. The Richmond, Virginia native is more than half way to surpassing his total from last year when he finished with 59 tackles. Additionally, Scott has back-to-back games of two tackles for loss. He is the first CU defensive player with two or more TFLs in consecutive contests since Dajor Davenport at the end of the 2021 season. Scott recorded his first career sack at Bluefield State in the second game of the season, and he has accounted for 4.5 of Concord's 13 tackles for loss. The only other Mountain Lion with more than two TFLs is sophomore linebacker Xavier Ellison with three. Scott ranks third in the MEC in TFLs.

TAKE IT AWAY
All of Concord's five takeaways this fall have been interceptions as senior defensive back Corey Radcliff tied sophomore defensive back Ar'Terrian Godfrey for the team lead in interceptions with two after snaring his second pick of the year at Charleston. The only other player in the MEC with multiple interceptions this season besides the two CU safeties is Wheeling's Leonard Sharrod. In 11 games last year, Concord intercepted eight passes. West Liberty quarterback Kohl Meisman has thrown seven interceptions in four games, and Concord has intercepted at least one West Liberty in three straight meetings. WLU enters Saturday with a turnover ratio of -5 which is in the bottom 25 teams in Division II. Concord's defensive pass efficiency is second in the MEC (102.4.).

HOMEFIELD ADVANTAGE
Dating back to 2012, the home team in the Concord-West Liberty contest has had a decided advantage. In the last 12 meetings, the home team is 9-3 with the only wins by the road team coming in 2013, 2022 and 2023—Concord winning at WLU in 2013, CU winning at West Liberty in 2022 and WLU winning at Callaghan Stadium in 2023. The 2023 win for the Hilltoppers came on the final play of the game, 23-21. Two seasons ago, junior linebacker Brodee Rice had 11 tackles against West Liberty. The Mountain Lions have not lost three straight games to West Liberty since 2008-10, a streak CU is trying to avoid Saturday. The last two games between Concord and West Liberty played at Callaghan Stadium have been decided by a total of six points.

VARIETY OF WIDEOUTS
Saturday's game features some of the best wide receivers in the conference. Not only is Collins in the top five in Division II in receiving yards (437), but two other Mountain Lions have been putting up impressive numbers to assist Mizzell in the passing game. Sophomore wide receiver Keyon Concepcion is eighth in the MEC in receiving yards (181), though he hasn't scored yet this fall. Moore is 10th in the conference in receiving yards (171). West Liberty's top wide receiver is Trey Singleton who is a Fairmont State transfer. Singleton is third in the MEC in receiving yards (382), but has only found the endzone once. Collins is seeking his fourth straight 100-yard receiving game of the season which would be the longest streak for a CU pass catcher since Jarod Bowie in 2022. Singleton is going for his second 100-yard game of the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
6- Pass break-ups by Scott this season which is tied for first in the MEC.

10- Concord is the only team in the conference that has three players with at least 10 receptions this season: Collins (18), Concepcion (12) and Moore (10).

254- Days between head coach Cody Edwards' official hiring and the first game he coaches at Callaghan Stadium.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS

Meisman has thrown at least one interception in all four games. He is coming off a game at Frostburg State where he completed just 17-of-40 passes for 123 yards and an interception. The 21-7 loss at Frostburg State was WLU's best defensive performance of the season as the Hilltoppers allowed two touchdowns in the final 12 minutes that broke a 7-7 deadlock. Grant Thompson is the MEC leader in sacks (four). Thompson also has seven TFLs this fall. Running back Hunter Patterson was an All-American during the 2025 indoor track season in the 60-meter dash. Patterson piled up 137 yards (85 rushing, 52 receiving) against CU last season and scored two touchdowns.
