ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Rollins Saturday evening to wrap up the Concord Classic inside the Carter Center.

Concord (10-1) opened the match on fire, winning the first set 25-14. However, the momentum did not carry over as Rollins (10-2) won the second set, 25-12. A competitive third set went to RC, 26-24. And the fourth set was a final of 25-14.

In the first set, the Mountain Lions wreaked havoc at the net, blocking five shots as a team and the offense was clicking around them as the team hit .379, a match best. The early success was spurred by sophomore right side Maddie Stuff who tallied all four of her blocks for the match in the opening game. As a team, CU clipped off a 7-1 scoring run in the early stages of the set to separate itself from the Tars, taking a 13-6 lead.

After the tough second set, Concord found itself trailing 16-10 before closing the gap to 17-16 in third set. Eventually, the Mountain Lions tied the set at 20-20. From there, the teams traded points with CU taking their first lead of the set at 23-22 after a Rollins' attack error. But, the Tars retook the lead and claimed the go-ahead set, 26-24.

In the fourth, the Mountain Lions lost four of the first five points, and was only able to get within 7-5 before Rollins took off.

Offensively, CU was led by junior outside hitter
Chloe Thompson with 13 kills. She hit a team best .393. Freshman middle hitter
Addison Adkins chipped in 10 kills on a .316 hitting percentage. Junior setter
Paige Richmond totaled 23 assists in the contest. Sophomore setter
Haley Sweeney added 12 assists. Two Mountain Lions had double-digit digs. Junior libero
Allie Davis racked up 12 digs. Junior outside hitter
Meg Williams collected 10 digs.

The Mountain Lions open Mountain East Conference play Friday, September 26 at the Carter Center as they host Frostburg State at 7:00 p.m.
