ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team ran its record to 10-0 on the season with a sweep of Winston-Salem State during the Concord Classic Friday evening at the Carter Center.

The match opened with intense back-and-forth play as neither team could pull ahead. Concord ended up on top, taking the opener 25-19. In the second, CU stayed hot winning the set 25-17. They closed the match out 25-19 in the third and final set, after a late run put them on top for good.

In the first set, the Mountain Lions pulled ahead 13-10 after a pair of kills from freshman middle hitter
Addison Adkins helped cap a 4-0 run. During the first set, the Concord defense played a part in the success, holding Winston-Salem State (2-5) to a hitting percentage of .054.

The second set saw Concord kick into a new gear offensively. They hit a stellar .375 as a team and finished the set with 16 kills as a unit. The Rams found went back-and-forth with CU, but it was the Mountain Lions that pulled away with a five-point run that took the lead from 17-16 to 22-16. Junior outside hitter
Meg Williams contributed three of her 10 kills during the spurt.

The third set was another competitive one as the teams were evenly matched. Though Concord was held to .116 in the final set, it was Adkins that help spur the Mountain Lions down the stretch with three kills over the final 10 points for CU. A kill by Williams and a service ace closed out the Rams in a sweep.

Adkins (12) and Wiliams (10) were the only two Mountain Lions to finish with double-digit kills. Williams just missed a double-double with nine digs. Junior setter
