Concord Eases Past Glenville State, 4-0

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team scored two goals in each half as it rolled by Glenville State, 4-0, at Callaghan Stadium in a Mountain East Conference game Wednesday afternoon.

The Mountain Lions (2-2, 2-0 MEC) had a handful of chances in the first 15 minutes, but did not break through until senior forward Caitlin Webster went down the left flank and slotted a goal to the far right post for the game's first goal in the 17th minute.

CU continued to press, but did not strike again until the 35th minute when sophomore midfielder Marika Svensson flicked a shot over the GSU (0-4, 0-2 MEC) goalkeeper. Both sophomore midfielder Tiana Campbell and freshman forward Alana Ferguson assisted on Svensson's first goal of the year.

In the 62nd minute, Webster secured her third career brace as a direct ball was played down the left side from senior midfielder Jessica Neville. After a couple touches, Webster blasted her second score of the day.

The final Concord goal came seven minutes later as a corner kick was cleared away from danger, but found freshman defender Cecelie Skelde from 35 yards away. Skelde gathered and fired a shot to the top right corner of the net for her first career goal.

The Mountain Lions' starting back line of Neville, sophomore defender Ella Rowell and Skelde held GSU without a shot before a host of subs saw the final 15 minutes out for CU's first clean sheet of the year.

CU took 19 shots in the game with nine on goal. Campbell and Webster each had four shots in the game with Campbell, Skelde and Webster combining for seven of Concord's shots on frame.

After a four-game home stretch to start the season, CU takes to the road for the first time in 2025 when it visits Davis & Elkins 5:00 p.m. Sunday in an MEC contest.
