ATHENS, W.Va. – With so many new faces around the Carter Center for the 2025-26 school year, the Concord Sports Information Department will be highlighting all full-time employees in a Get to Know series throughout the first few weeks of the new athletic year.

Whether those friendly faces have been in Athens for five days or five decades, you'll know more about everyone in the Concord Athletic Department.

Name: DeAirus Whitney
Position: Assistant Football Coach – Defensive Backs Coach
College Alma Mater: University of Central Arkansas (Bachelor's)
Year(s) at Concord: Less than a year

How did you land at Concord?
Previously worked with head coach Cody Edwards at Western Carolina

Tell us a little about where you're from?
I'm originally from a small town, Kensett, Arkansas, right on the outskirts of Searcy. Generally, it's about 40 minutes outside of Little Rock.

What's been your most rewarding experience as an athlete or coach?
As a coach, the most rewarding experience usually comes towards the end of the year, when I can see guys improve in all areas of their lives.

Outside of family, who's had the biggest positive influence of your life?
My high school head coach Mark Kelly. He showed me that you can take a little and make it a lot in a hurry. He's one of the main reasons I became a coach. I love the process of helping guys get from point A to point B. Be thankful for what you have and make the best of it.

What makes Concord such a special place?
Concord is a special place because of the community and the people who work on campus. This place is close knit, usually when you know one person, you tend to learn about two or three more people you didn't know you needed. I've appreciated getting to know new faces here!

Favorite vacation spot?
I love going to the beach. Majority of the beaches in the Florida are very relaxing.

Go-to junk food?
Zebra Cakes

What advice would you give today's college student that you have found most valuable?
Never stop learning. Don't be afraid to try something new.

What's one bucket list item that you have crossed off and are most proud of?
Own a motorcycle
