ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team dropped a pair of games to Glenville State Wednesday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at the CU Softball Field.
CU lost 8-0 and 8-3 and is 15-22 overall and 10-10 in the MEC. Glenville State improves to 25-12 overall and 15-5 in the conference.
Game 1: Glenville State 8 = Concord 0
Concord had a tough time solving Glenville State starting pitcher Kylie Burdick as GSU won game one.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after an inning before plating another four runs in the third inning.
CU's first hit came in the fourth inning when senior infielder
Courtney Raines singled as the leadoff batter, however, Concord was unable to move the hit around. Junior catcher/outfielder
Morgan Gleason had a two-out single in the fifth inning.
Gleason was on base twice in the contest as she also drew a third-inning walk.

Madison Hollis (5-4) was the pitcher of record for CU as she allowed the first four runs. Freshman pitcher/outfielder
Reghan Hintz tossed 4.2 innings of relief as she collected two strikeouts.
Game 2: Glenville State 8 – Concord 3
The Mountain Lions jumped on Glenville State early, but was unable to hold off the Pioneers in two big innings.
Junior infielder
Lacie Lewis led off the bottom of the first with her team-best 10
th home run of the season to give Concord its first lead of the doubleheader.
GSU answered with a four-run second inning as it grabbed the lead back. The three-run lead for Glenville State was short-lived, though, as CU scratched across a run in the third.
After drawing a nine-pitch walk with two outs, junior catcher/utility
Kayla Sholter rounded the bases on a double by senior infielder
Kassidy Garvey in the next at-bat.
Concord trailed 4-2 after three innings.
The Pioneers got the run back in the top of the fourth, and added three more tallies in the fifth.
The Mountain Lions' third run came on an RBI groundout by junior catcher
Gianna Sloan-Lebron as Garvey came in after a leadoff walk in the sixth.
Garvey was on base all three times with the RBI double and a pair of walks. Sloan-Lebron was 1-for-3 with an RBI and her second double of the year. Lewis' 10
th home run is the fourth-most in school history for a single season.
Freshman pitcher
Mahailey Nicholson (4-6) tossed 4.1 innings in the loss.
Concord begins an eight-game road trip 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Frostburg State.
