ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team dropped a 12-2 decision to nationally-ranked, 20th-rated Lenoir-Rhyne Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference contest at Anderson Field.
CU (22-20) scored the game's first run, but it was Lenoir-Rhyne (37-9) that took command of the game with a seven-run third inning.
The Mountain Lions put runners on the corner to start the bottom of the first before junior infielder
Matthew DiSanti delivered an RBI single to plate sophomore infielder
Nick DiSanti.
Freshman pitcher/outfielder
Braylen Baker retired six of the first seven batters he faced, however, six of the next eight batters reached base to star the third as L-R scored seven times.
Down 8-1 in the fourth, Concord got one back as junior catcher
Austin Hear homered to left field, his ninth home run of the year.
CU threatened in the sixth as both M. DiSanti and junior catcher
Kaden Swaim were hit to start the inning, but the Maroon and Gray was unable to generate any runs. And a leadoff single by sophomore infielder
Alex Rodriguez in the seventh showed promise. But, the Bears were able to get out of the inning for the 12-2 final.
Hear was 1-for-2 with the solo home run and a walk. M. DiSanti was also 1-for-2 with an RBI single and a walk. N. DiSanti was on base three times as he was hit twice and tallied a base hit.
