Concord Places Sixth at MEC Spring Classic

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Concord University women's golf team finished sixth at the Mountain East Conference Spring Classic that concluded Tuesday afternoon at Edgewood Country Club.

Concord shot team rounds of 362 and 384 for the 36-hole tournament as the Mountain Lions finished at 746. The 362 on Monday was the third-lowest round of the year, fall or spring, for CU.

Graduate student Mary Denny finished in a tie for 14th with a total of 165. Denny shot 79, equaling her lowest round of the year, on Monday. She came back with an 86 Tuesday. Denny had two birdies during her first round with a three on the par 4, 367-yard first hole, and a two on the par 3, 185-yard sixth. Her third birdie for the tournament came on the par 4, 438-yard 17th Tuesday. Paced by the two birdies, Denny played the front nine Monday at +3, 38.

Senior Anna Fry and freshman Sara Matos Tamargo tied for 29th as they totaled 189. Fry fired a 90 on Monday and recorded a 99 Tuesday. Tamargo was steady in shooting a 94 Monday and carding a 95 during the second round. Like Denny, Tamargo had a birdie on the sixth hole Monday. She was also stellar on the front nine with a +6, 41 Monday and a +8, 43 Tuesday.  

Freshman Alexandria Denny shot rounds of 99 and 104 as her total of 203 was 35th in the field. She had a birdie three on the short 338-yard, par 4 eighth hole Tuesday.
Glenville State who was four strokes behind Charleston heading into Tuesday rallied to win the tournament with a team score of 619 to Charleston's 623. GSU's Kerri-Anne Cook was the individual medalist with a two-day score of 145.

Tuesday's round concluded the season for the Mountain Lions.
