CLERMONT, Fla. – The Concord University softball team lost to Wayne State (Neb.) and Queens College to finish up their time at The Spring Games.
The Mountain Lions went extra innings with WSC before losing 6-5, and was defeated by Queens, 6-2. Concord returns to Athens with a record of 5-12.
Game 1: Wayne State 6 – Concord 5 (Eight Innings)
Concord jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning as freshman pitcher/outfielder
Reghan Hintz drove in a pair or runs.
During a two-run fourth, the lead grew to 4-1 as junior outfielder
Alina Giles and Hintz were in the middle of the scoring. Giles notched a one-out RBI on a bunt that brought in sophomore infielder
Kendall Morgan who began the inning by reaching on an error.
Two batters later, Giles came around to score on a base hit to left field from Hintz.
Wayne State struck for three runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game before CU responded in the bottom of the frame. Junior infielder/pitcher
Madison Hollis slapped a single into left field that brought in sophomore pitcher
Josi Ervin.
WSC tied the game in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly. The Wildcats took a 6-5 lead in the top of the eighth.
Concord was retired in order in the bottom of the inning.
Giles and Hintz were both 2-for-3 in the game. Hintz drove in three runs. Hollis finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Hintz (0-4) was the pitcher of record in relief as she allowed two unearned runs in two innings. Hollis tossed the first five inning as she gave up four runs.
Game 2: Queens 6 – Concord 2
A five-run third inning by Queens was too much for the Mountain Lions to overcome.
Concord was able to get on the board in the sixth inning with a pair of runs. After a leadoff walk to senior infielder
Courtney Raines in the sixth, she came around to score on an RBI double by Giles. Then, Giles touched home on a run-scoring single from junior catcher/outfielder
Morgan Gleason.
The rally continued with consecutive walks, bringing the go-ahead run to the plate. However, the Knights were able to end the threat and keep a 5-2 edge.

Ervin (3-5) was the pitcher of record as she tossed two innings and gave up two runs.
Concord opens Mountain East Conference play Saturday, March 15 at Charleston.
