ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team lost a three-set contest to Charleston Friday night in Mountain East Conference action at the Carter Center.
CU (19-7, 7-6 MEC) dropped a tight first set 25-23 before Charleston (19-11, 10-3 MEC) took control of the second and third sets with 25-19 and 25-18 wins.
The Mountain Lions had the momentum in the early part of the opening game as CU went up 14-10 after a kill by sophomore defensive specialist
Camille Testerman, and still led 20-17 after an assisted block by junior middle hitter

Maddie Stull. However, Charleston went on a 6-0 run. Concord battled back to 24-23 after a kill from junior outside hitter
Meg Williams, but UC closed out the set on the next rally.
CU overcame a slow start in the second set as it watched the Golden Eagles score eight of the first10 points. Concord responded with a 10-3 run that was capped with one of two service aces in the set from freshman middle hitter
Addison Adkins. With Concord up 12-11, it was Charleston that had the next spurt in the game by rattling off another 8-2 run to lead 19-14.
UC got out to a 10-6 lead in the third set before CU trimmed the lead to one point on three different occasions. And with the score at 19-17, Charleston scored four straight point to end any hope of a CU comeback.
Williams registered nine kills. Junior outside hitter
Chloe Thompson tallied seven kills and a team-best nine digs. Adkins had five kills on nine swings without an error. Junior setter
Paige Richmond went for 12 assists, and sophomore setter
Haley Sweeney had 10 assists.
CU wraps up the home portion of its schedule 7:00 p.m. Tuesday versus Davis & Elkins.
