GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Concord volleyball University volleyball team fell in a close four-set match with Glenville State on the road Friday night inside the Waco Center.

Concord (20-8, 8-7 MEC) fought hard but couldn't quite take Glenville State (13-17, 5-10 MEC) the distance. The set scores were 20-25, 25-22, 22-25, 22-25.

Glenville State opened the match with four straight points to set the tone early. While Concord stayed competitive in the set, it was junior outside hitter
Chloe Thompson doing the heavy lifting. She finished the set with eight kills. Thompson kept the Mountain Lions hanging around, but GSU went up 1-0.

The second set saw both teams trade points until the 11-11 mark, when the Mountain Lions took four straight. Junior outside hitter
Meg Williams tallied half the points on the quick spurt. But, Glenville State battled back to tie the set at 16-16. The Maroon and Gray returned the favor, winning five straight points after forcing three errors while sophomore right side
Maddie Stull and Thompson contributed a kill each. The Pioneers rallied late, but Stull put them away with a kill to clinch the second, 25-22.

CU fell behind 10-3 to start the third set, but rallied on the back end of the game, thanks to six kills from freshman middle hitter
Addison Adkins. Concord continued to claw its way back to even footing, but came up just short to end the third, 25-22.

After trailing 8-5 in the fourth set, CU ripped off five in a row to snatch the lead from the Pioneers. Williams had two kills in that stretch and junior libero
Allie Davis collected an ace. Glenville State continued to chip away and wrestled the lead back into their favor to take an 18-17 lead. GSU extended it to 23-19 and with their back against the wall, CU won three straight points before running out of gas. GSU took the fourth 25-22.

Thompson topped the leaderboard for CU with 16 kills, her season-high. Adkins was the other Mountain Lion in double-figures with 13 kills. Davis finished the match with 26 digs while Williams corralled 21 digs, the third highest mark of her career. Sophomore defensive specialist

Haley Sweeney each tallied 10 digs. Junior setter
Paige Richmond finished the match with 27 assists, while Sweeney had 19.

Concord's opponent in the MEC Tournament will be West Liberty. The conference postseason will take place at West Virginia Wesleyan's Rockefeller Center. CU's quarterfinal matchup with West Liberty is slated for 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
