DANIELS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's golf team comfortably held on to fourth place at the Mountain East Conference Championship that wrapped up Wednesday afternoon on the Cobb Course at Resort at Glade Springs.
CU scored 389 as a team during the third round to finish at 1167 as the previous two rounds were 391 and 387. The fourth-place finish by the Mountain Lions matches the highest finish in program history at the MEC Championship which originally came last year.
Freshman
Kendra Lugo placed inside the top 15 as her round of 86 kept her in 13
th from the second round. Lugo recorded a total of 258 (87, 85, 86). She shot 43 on both nines Wednesday. Lugo was just four strokes of the pace of the top 10.
Sophomore
Sara Matos Tamargo booked her place in the top 20 with a round of 94 which moved her up one spot to 18
th in the final placings. Tamargo notched rounds of 96 and 95 to begin the tournament, finishing at 285.
Freshman Regan Friel climbed three spots Wednesday to finish 22
nd with a total of 308 (102, 103, 103). And sophomore
Alexandria Denny made it a third Mountain Lion to move up the leaderboard during the final day as her round of 106 pushed her two spots to 24
th. Denny finished at 316 (106, 104, 106).
Charleston won the team title by 32 strokes over Glenville State. CU's Mari Filippa Larsen defeated her own teammate Lucia Martin to win the individual championship.
Wednesday wrapped up the fall season for Concord.
