Jeremy Nguyen and
Jackson Williams of the Concord University men's golf team finished up the Mountain East Conference Tournament Wednesday afternoon at the Resort at Glade Springs' Cobb Course.
Both players were in the top 25. Nguyen finished with a three-day total of 230 (76, 76, 78) which tied him for 15th in the final standings. He shook off a tough start with a 41 on the front nine, bouncing back with a +1, 37 on the back nine. The Richmond, Texas native played the final six holes at two-under after birdies on the par-3, 193-yard 13
th and the par-3, 187-yard 17
th. He finished with six birdies for the tournament.
Like Nguyen, Williams had a rough front nine Wednesday, but came back with a 38 on the back nine Williams birdied the 10
th hole, a par-4 and finished the tournament with a birdie on the long par-5, 549-yard 18
th. Williams' total of 236 (75, 77, 84) placed him 23
rd.
Charleston edged Glenville State by three strokes (889-892) for the team title. UC's Pau Sanchez shot the lowest round of the tournament, a three-under 69, Wednesday to win the overall individual title by two strokes.
The Mountain Lions conclude the fall season October 20-21 at the Bluefield State Invite at Fincastle Country Club.
