DANIELS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's golf team placed eighth at the Mountain East Conference Championship as CU did not make the final round cut for Wednesday.
On Tuesday on the Cobb Course at the Resort at Glade Springs, Concord shot a 318. Combined with a first round total of 314, the Mountain Lions finished at 632. Point Park was the sixth and final team to make the cut for Wednesday with a team score of 624 for two rounds.
Despite the team not making Wednesday's final round, freshmen
Jeremy Nguyen and
Jackson Williams both move on to the final round based on individual success. The final round begins at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday.
Both Nguyen and Williams are tied for 13
th heading into Wednesday with a total of 152 for the tournament. Nguyen matched his 76 from Monday with the same score in the second round.
Starting on the back nine, Â Nguyen birdied the par-4, 433-yard 11
th as he played the back nine at 38. Nguyen began the front nine with back-to-back birdies as he scored a three on the first hole and made four on the par-5, 520-yard second. Nguyen equaled his back nine total on the front, 38.
Williams rode a hot start on the back nine to a round of 77 after a 75 Monday. He had a pair of birdies on par 4s—the 10
th and 14
th holes. Williams moved to -2 on the back after a birdie on the par-3, 178-yard 17
th. Ultimately, Williams settled for a -1, 35 on the back nine.
Nguyen and Williams start the final round within three shots of the top 10.
Freshman
Henry Lewis finishes the tournament tied for 34
th after two rounds of 81. Sophomore
Coltan Farrell carded two birdies Tuesday on his way to an 84. He tied for 40
th at 166. Fellow sophomore
Jonah Willson was a stroke back of Farrell (83, 84).
Glenville State starts the final round with a two shot lead on Charleston (596-598). Wheeling is just 11 strokes back. Point Park's Milo Thim is the only player under par for the tournament after scores of 70 and 73 as he leads by one stroke. Â
