BOUNCE BACK
After a tough 3-1 defeat at Charleston, Concord has another tough test in front of it as West Virginia Wesleyan comes to town Tuesday. The Mountain Lions are right behind the Bobcats in the Mountain East Conference South standings and a win would put CU tied in first place. Concord is 3-2 against West Virginia Wesleyan over their last five matches and both affairs last season went to five sets. The home team came away with the victory in both of those matches. In last year's home match against the Bobcats, junior outside hitter Chloe Thompson set her career high with 22 kills while adding 14 digs. Fellow junior hitter Meg Williams notched 16 kills and 11 digs.
SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE
It's shaping up to be a classic battle between offense versus defense on Tuesday. The Bobcats lead the MEC in hitting percentage (.215), assists per set (12.17) kills per set (13.34). On the flip side, Concord's defense ranks very highly in the league. The Mountain Lions are third in opponent hitting percentage (.148), third in opponent kills per set (11.42), and third in blocks per set (2.13). Individually, junior middle hitter Jasmine Anderson is third in the MEC in blocks per set (1.14) while freshman middle hitter Addison Adkins is sixth (0.82)
LEADING LIBEROS
In the matchup between Concord and West Virginia Wesleyan, two of the MEC's best liberos will take the stage. For the Mountain Lions, junior libero Allie Davis is continuing her great form from her previous two years at CU as she is currently second in the conference with 4.86 digs per set. For the Bobcats, they turn to senior libero Alexis Moeschler. She is averaging 4.16 digs per set which ranks fourth in the conference while adding 0.41 service aces per set, good enough for seventh in the MEC.
KEEP THE STREAK
The Mountain Lions have scored six straight victories over Davis & Elkins that has seen them take over the all-time series lead against the Senators 15-14. Junior outside hitter Meg Williams has notched two double-doubles against D&E, racking up 18 kills and 15 digs in one of the two 2024 matchups. CU has won the last two matchups in Elkins and will look to make it three this Friday.
SCOUTING THE WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN BOBCATS
West Virginia Wesleyan has improved its win total over each of the last three seasons and are off to a hot start in 2025. The Bobcats have ripped off four straight wins as they currently sit atop the MEC South with a record of 2-0. They are led by the trio of junior middle blocker Bhrooke Axe, junior middle blocker Emily Denison, and freshman outside hitter MacKenna Halfin. They each average at least 2.5 kills per set and all hit over .240. Axe leads the MEC in hitting percentage (.361).Â
SCOUTING THE DAVIS & ELKINS SENATORS
Davis & Elkins is seeking its first win of the campaign. The Senators have also dropped the first three games of MEC play. The Senators are coming off a seven-win season in 2024, and are looking to build some positive momentum for the rest of the season. They are led by the right side tandem of Melisa Ozsar and Christine Rangel who have provided over 60 kills each to start the season.
